Description

Buckingham Villa is a long, low villa dating from approximately the 1830s and 1840s, situated well back from the road and facing the sea, with its main entrance fronting south. The villa is two storeys and has a stuccoed front, with a sill band and plinth. There are six windows on the first floor and five on the ground floor, with one modern window to the left of the doorway. The westernmost windows are slightly projected, with a tripartite ground floor window recessed and featuring sash windows with intact glazing bars in the side lights, a frieze, and a cornice. The first floor window above has a block apron resting on the cornice of the ground floor window. All other windows are recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars. The doorway is modern. A low pitched slate roof has overhanging eaves.

An adjoining service wing is located to the south-east, built of stone rubble with stock brick dressings. This wing has three windows, recessed sash windows with glazing bars, and a low pitched slate roof. The north front, facing the sea, features flanking pilaster strips and one between the fourth and fifth windows to the east. It has seven first-floor windows, recessed and with two-light casements, architrave surrounds, and block sills. The ground floor has four full-length wood-framed rectangular bays with mullions and transoms in one light on each side and four across the front, with the central two being French windows; all retain intact glazing bars. Tuscan pilasters mark the angles, and there is a frieze and cornice above. A small conservatory and a projecting part of the service wing, stuccoed on this front, are also present on the east side. The west front has two two-light casement windows on the first floor with block sills but no architrave surrounds. The ground floor has a rectangular bay similar to that on the north front, but with a tiled hipped roof.
