Description

This building at 25 Union Road, West Cowes, dates to 1846 and was originally built as a Masonic Hall. It was designed by a Mr Wyatt, likely either Benjamin Dean or Henry John. The architectural style is Greek Revival. The facade is stuccoed, while the remainder of the building is constructed of red brick. It is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. Four Doric pilasters define the front elevation, supporting a triglyph frieze and a triangular pediment topped with three urns. The original glazing bars remain intact. The ground-floor windows are each topped with a pediment featuring corner acroteria. The doorcase is also pedimented, featuring a rectangular fanlight above the door. The roof is slate-covered, with a slate and glass belvedere at the top.
