Description
The Masonic Hall, opened in 1851, is constructed of dressed stone and features a hipped slate roof with a moulded eaves cornice and blocking course. The building has two storeys and a basement, with a string course running along its façade. The front of the hall is symmetrical with three bays, where the central bay projects forward and is topped with a pediment that displays a carved Masonic symbol of a set square and compass in the tympanum. The ground floor features rusticated quoins and simple pilasters flanking the central bay on the first floor. The doorway includes a semicircular fanlight, simple pilaster surrounds, and a full entablature. The ground floor windows are adorned with rounded hipped architraves, while the first floor windows are round arched with shouldered architraves, all fitted with glazing bars. The basement openings are plain.
Access to the hall is via a flight of stone steps, which are flanked by walls that each support an ornamental iron lamp standard. Surrounding the property is a low boundary wall topped with iron railings and gates.
