Description
The Apollo Theatre, originally known as the Victoria Methodist Chapel, was built in 1804 and enlarged in 1833. This two-storey building is constructed of red brick with deep red brick dressings and features three bays. The central bay is slightly recessed and rises to a full-width pediment, which has a deep red brick relieving arch. The pediment includes paired flat modillions and three round-headed windows with glazing bars and block sills, along with a semi-circular lunette above the central window. A block string course runs along the building. The central entrance consists of double doors with six fielded panels and a semi-circular fanlight, flanked by fluted Greek Doric columns. The frieze and cornice are likely from the 1833 renovation. Additionally, there are later 19th-century cast iron railings on stone at the street. The Apollo Theatre is part of a group with Nos 124 to 127, which are consecutive.
