Description
Numbers 14 to 24 on West Street are a simple row of buildings that date from around 1840 and were formerly part of HM Coastguard Station. The buildings are two storeys high and have a stucco facade with a hipped slate roof and overhanging eaves. There are 12 windows in total, all featuring glazing bar sashes. The ground floor windows and doorways are framed with moulded architrave surrounds topped with a cornice. At the rear of number 24, there is a coastguard store or lookout, constructed of red brick with a slate roof and a stack at the gable end. The north front of this structure has two 12-pane sash windows and a plank door, both with flat brick arches, while the east gable end displays a row of brackets.
