Description
The school buildings next to the Church of St Mary Magdalene were constructed around 1865. They are made of red brick arranged in English bond, with stone and black brick dressings, and feature a slate roof.
The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement. The north side, facing Upper North Street, has a single-window range, while the east side has a three-window range. There is a segmental-arched entrance in the basement of the east front, adorned with stone dressings and voussoirs made of black and red brick, along with a canopied niche above. On the ground floor, there are two windows facing Upper North Street and three on the east side, all of which are flat-arched, consisting of two lights and one transom. The mullions and transoms on Upper North Street are made of stone, while those on the east front are wooden, with relieving arches of black and red brick above. A band of black brick runs along the storey.
On the first floor, the east front features three pairs of segmental-arched windows with one transom each, located under full dormers. The front facing Upper North Street has a four-light window with cusped tracery and one transom, also with voussoirs of black and red brick, and a band of black brick in the gable. There is a staircase wing to the south-east beneath a hipped roof. The south front mirrors the detailing of the north front but is finished in stucco, with a single-storey extension to the south-west. The interior has not been inspected.
