Description

This is a terrace of four houses, now used as flats and a bank, built between 1828 and 1830. The architects were Amon Wilds and C.A. Busby. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with the roofs hidden behind a parapet. They form a terrace along the western side of Brunswick Square.

Each house has four storeys and a basement, with three bays. The frontages are bowed, and the houses have a balustrade parapet and a moulded cornice. The ground floors are rusticated. The upper windows are sash windows without glazing bars, with French windows on the first floor that open onto individual cast iron balconies with an acanthus leaf design. Blind boxes are on the first floor windows of number 5. Number 1 has a late 19th-century two-light door with stained glass. Numbers 3, 5 and 7 have doorcases with decorative details, including Ionic columns and entablatures, though the doors have been replaced in the 20th century. Number 7’s entrance is no longer in use. The balustrade is missing from number 3. Cast-iron railings run along the street frontage, returning from the entrances. The listing also includes the attached railings.
