Description

These are four terraced houses, numbers 10 to 13 Cavendish Place, dating to around 1829. They are constructed of stucco, with the original roof hidden behind a parapet. The houses are four storeys high, with a basement level. Numbers 10 to 12 each have a two-window front, while number 13 features a single window. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication, and includes a flat-arched entrance with an overlight; number 11 has decorative glazing in the overlight. Canted bays are present to the left of the entrances: number 10 has canted bays on the ground, first, and second floors, while numbers 11 and 13 have them on the ground and first floors. The flat-arched windows on the upper floors are flanked by giant Corinthian pilasters, except where the bays interrupt. A balcony with cast-iron railings is located on the first floor. A storey band separates the first and second floors, and there is an entablature. The attic storey features pilasters between the windows, as well as a secondary cornice and blocking course. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present at the steps and area. A plaque commemorating the poet and novelist Horace Smith is affixed to number 12.
