Description

Number 79 is a terraced house located on Preston Street in Brighton, built between 1822 and 1830. It is likely designed by Amon Wilds and Charles Augustus Busby, possibly involving the refronting of an existing building. The house is constructed of stucco, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. It has two storeys above a basement and features a two-window range. The entrance is flat-arched with a bracketed canopy above, and there may be a passage entrance to the left. There is a full-height segmental bay that is slightly recessed, with central mullions and curved casements of original design. Both floors have cast-iron window guards. The building is topped with a cornice and a balustraded parapet that bows over the bay, complete with ball finials at either end. The steps and area are enclosed by cast-iron railings featuring fleur-de-lys finials. The property was originally listed in error as No. 70 Preston Street.
