Description

The monument to Sake Deen Mahomed is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Nicholas of Myra in Brighton. This headstone, dating from around 1851, is made of stone and is positioned at the angle of the north aisle and the covered passage leading to Church Street. Sake Deen Mahomed opened 'Mahomed's Baths' in King's Road, Brighton, in 1786, which were the first vapour or Turkish baths in Britain. He authored several books and pamphlets on his methods and served as 'Shampooing Surgeon' to King George IV.
