Description

Horseshoe House, formerly known as The Four Horse Shoes Public House, is a hall house that has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and extensions added in the late 20th century.

The building features a timber frame construction, with parts finished in painted render and brick. It has an old tiled gabled roof that shows visible rafter ends. Originally, the house had a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays, but the extensions on the north, west, and south sides now create a T-shaped layout, with the former hall located in the central bay.

The exterior is two storeys high and includes three chimneys with corniced heads and clay pots, with the central chimney on the ridge having three shafts in an L-shape. The windows are a mix of 19th and 20th-century casements. The south entrance front is irregular, featuring a single bay gable extension in brick on the left with two-light windows. The right section has one two-light and one three-light window on the ground floor, along with a 20th-century enclosed gabled porch and a plank door positioned between them. On the first floor, there is a single three-light window and a two-light window with a small gable that breaks the eaves.

Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed, and there are old plank doors along with a brick fireplace that likely dates from the 17th century. The roof features queen post trusses.
