Description
No 258 on London Road is a 19th-century mill building that once functioned as a flock or cotton mill, previously known as Kilburn's cotton mill. It was connected to Kilburn's calico printing works, which utilized the area of The Grange for bleaching. This building did not have a waterwheel but sourced water from a stream that flowed from The Grange through nearby watercress beds to the River Wandle.
The structure is two stories tall and features nine window bays on both the north and south sides. It has a hipped slate roof with red tile ridges and wooden overhanging eaves. The north side includes eight window bays and a loft door at the west end, with 19th-century fixed windows that have small panes arranged in a configuration of four panes wide and two deep for the upper windows, and two panes wide and two deep for the lower windows. The east gable end features a loft door and a ground floor entrance with a four-flush-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight. There are modern additions to the ground floor on the south side, but the original wall remains intact.
