Description

Wallington Bridge is an early 19th-century road bridge crossing the Wandle. The western side features a segmental rendered arch with a stone keystone inscribed with the date 18?09, a brick parapet, and brick abutments. Within the arch are two rendered culverts. The parapet is topped with a stone capping and railings. Railings curve southwards from the bridge, extending as far as a pair of bollards marking the entrance to a sunken garden beside 282 London Road. The eastern side has two separate arches, each with its own set of railings and bollards. The southern arch crosses a watercourse leading from ponds and a weir by Manor Cottage, with tall round stone bollards at either end, the top rail of the railings set on a curve. The northern arch crosses another stream from the Grange, and the railings extend a short distance south of the bridge. Wallington Bridge, Manor Cottage and numbers 282 and 284 London Road form a group.
