Description

The Duke's Head Public House is a mid-19th century building located on Manor Road in Wallington. It has an irregular plan and an irregular arrangement of windows, with later 19th century additions. The exterior features stucco cladding and slate roofs. The south front is two storeys high with three window bays. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars set in segmental headed openings. There is a lower extension with a parapet towards the east and a recess on the ground floor that includes a 19th century cast iron pump against the east wall.

The east front facing Manor Road is also two storeys with three window bays and a slate gabled roof. It has stuccoed long and short quoins. The upper section features sash windows that are three panes wide with painted architraves in the reveals. Below, there is a one-storey extension at the south end, which has a doorway in the middle and a shallow rectangular bay window on the right.

On the north front, there is a taller gabled bay at the east end with a three-pane wide sash window above and two round-headed windows below. To the west, there is a three-light sash window above and a hipped projection that includes a three-light sash to the left and a gabled porch to the right below. Further west, there is a modern single sash window above and a four-light modern sash below, with three smaller sashes with horns both above and below at the west end. The building is included for its group value in the old village centre of Wallington, alongside the Stable Block, Nos 8 to 20 (even), and Nos 32 to 40 (even).
