Description

Dolphin Cottage and the garden walls and piers to numbers 8 to 16 on Manor Road in Wallington are part of a terrace of small cottages. These cottages likely include a structure from the mid-17th century but were mainly rebuilt in the early 19th century. The buildings are two storeys high and are finished in stucco. They feature a string course, cornice, and parapet, with pitched slate roofs that are particularly steep on No 8. The windows have moulded architrave surrounds with rounded corners, and the glazing bars are intact.

No 12 has a higher parapet with the inscription "Manor Road" and ball finials at either end. No 16 includes an addition to the south with a large tripartite window on the ground floor. Inside, there are simple early 19th-century chimney pieces, and some ground floor window bays have been built out.

There are 19th-century stuccoed dwarf walls along the road with rounded coping, and a low wall separates the gardens between Nos 8 and 10. A stuccoed dwarf wall with piers featuring peaked capping runs along the entrance drive to No 8, with a stuccoed pier with a ball finial to the south of the entrance. At the west end of the entrance drive, another pier flanks a flight of steps. Additionally, there are stuccoed piers with ball finials in the garden wall of No 16.

These buildings, along with the Duke's Head Public House, the Stable Block, and Nos 8 to 20 (even) and Nos 32 to 40 (even), form a cohesive group.
