Description

Newark House is an 18th-century house of three storeys and three windows, situated on the south-east side of The Vineyard. The main block has a slate mansard roof set behind a parapet. The facade is stuccoed and features a modillion cornice between the first and second floors. The entrance has a rusticated surround and an open pediment with mutules resting on carved consoles. To the left of the main block is a projecting two-storey wing, designed as a full-height canted bay with a round-headed central window. A modillion eaves cornice connects this wing to the main part of the house. A modern extension is located to the left of the wing. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the wider streetscape.
