Description

The walls enclosing Patten Alley are Grade II listed and date back to the 18th century. Patten Alley, which is now stone-flagged, was one of the original paths through the open fields of 17th century Richmond. In 1696, the path's alignment was slightly altered to the east at its southern end by the owner of Clarence House, The Vineyard, to create a more respectable forecourt. The west side features a wall made of red and plum brick from the 18th century, while the east side has a wall constructed of yellow stock brick from the 19th century.
