Description

Hampton Court Bridge was built between 1930 and 1933, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and engineer W P Robinson. The bridge is constructed of red brick with Portland stone pontoons, dressings, and a balustrade. It features three arches on ashlar pontoons, with arched keystoned niches on the piers, which are flanked by rusticated pilaster piers. An ashlar entablature supports a stone balustrade with turned balusters and square newel piers. There are 16 cast iron lamps mounted on open tapering standards with scroll feet, and some newel posts are topped with royal lion finials. The southern arch of the bridge is located in the District of Elmbridge, Surrey, while the rest is in the London Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
