Description

The icehouse at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew is likely from the 18th century and predates 1759, when Princess Augustus established a small botanical garden that included it. The structure features a brick dome built in English Bond, with an access arch and a barrel-vaulted passageway, all covered by a mound of earth. There is a modern brick entrance, and the icehouse incorporates part of the boundary wall from the original Botanical Garden.
