Description

The monument to Timothy Bennet, located at the corner with Park Road, was erected in 1900. It is made of black, green, and brown terracotta and features a tapering pedimented slab. The slab has an ornamental panel that reads, "In memory of Timothy Bennet, Shoemaker of Hampton Wick, by whose efforts the adjoining footpath was preserved for the use and enjoyment of the public JCB 1900." Above this panel, there are scrolls that support a smaller pediment inscribed with "TB 1756" and the phrase, "I am unwilling to leave the world worse than I found it." The monument also includes relief figures of Bennet and a shoemaker at work.
