Description

The Tennis Court, built around 1625 and remodeled in 1661, features 18th-century derestory windows in its heightened wall. It is constructed of brick and has a steep hipped tiled roof. The lower wall is blind and adorned with late 17th-century Portland stone dressings. Above this, there is a continuous strip of glazing with narrow overlapping glass panes, spanning ten full bays. A coved cornice runs above, and there is a stone string course between the windows and the lower wall. A gallery is located in front of the windows. The interior consists of a single tall space with aisles for viewing to the south and east, supported by timber Doric columns. The roof is timber boarded. A castellated Tudor range is attached to the south of the Tennis Court.
