Description
Dome Buildings is a mid-19th century rectangular structure featuring a prominent central semi-circular element topped with a dome and lantern, flanked by set-back wings on either side. The dome includes an additional storey, illuminated by pedimented windows. Both the dome and lantern are covered with diagonally set metal fish-scale tiles or slates. The building is finished in stucco, with a cornice, and the second-floor windows and entrance doors are moulded and corniced. Surrounding the central element is a curved modern shop-front that extends the width of the main section. This building makes an important contribution to the townscape of Richmond.
