Description
Richmond Theatre is a theatre built in 1899 by Frank Matcham. It is constructed of red brick with buff terracotta. The façade has four storeys, with the upper section set back. There are three main bays, with the centre bay being the widest. The outer bays are topped by octagonal towers featuring copper ogee domes. A projecting central entrance has an arch that is surmounted by a broken pediment with a statue above it. Above the entrance, there are four round windows with ornamental terracotta surrounds. To either side of the entrance, there is a single storey Doric colonnade. The outer bays have arched windows, and the towers include oval windows and terracotta consoles. A terracotta balustrade runs above the centre and to either side of the entrance, with an iron balustrade above the colonnade. There is a modern entrance canopy. Inside, there is a fine marble and wood panelled entrance hall and staircase, as well as an elaborately decorated auditorium.
