Description
29 Lord Street is an early 20th-century building constructed of ashlar stone with a slate mansard roof. It features an octagonal dome at the corner topped with an open octagonal lantern, which has an ogee dome and finial, all made of copper. The building consists of two storeys and attics, with a moulded eaves cornice and a balustrade adorned with vase-shaped balusters. The bays on either side of the corner project slightly and are capped with shaped Baroque gables that frame the windows in the dome.
The ground floor displays an order of blocked half-columns supporting an entablature. There are six ranges of sash windows facing Church Street and two on Lord Street, all with moulded and blocked frames featuring triple keystones. Additionally, there is one ashlar dormer with paired sashes and a swan's neck pediment. The round-arched door has a blocked moulded architrave and is flanked by fluted Tuscan half-columns that support a segmental pediment.
An extension runs to the east along Church Street, which includes three attic dormers with moulded surrounds, keystones, and segmental pediments. The first floor features one mullion-and-transom cross window and a group of three windows, all with moulded surrounds, a pulvinated frieze, and a linking moulded cornice. The ground floor also has a round-arched door with convex moulded rusticated jambs and voussoirs, along with a triple keystone framed by two Tuscan pilasters and a segmental pediment. There are two side-lights, each with small pilasters and a full entablature above. A group of three windows, two of which are canted, all have moulded frames and keystones, with the central window featuring a pulvinated frieze and pediment above. Half-columns are set facing inward in the space created by the canted side windows, and there is a moulded cornice above the entire ground floor. The east end is capped with a shaped gable.
