Description

The Church of St John the Baptist is a church built in 1875 by T G Jackson, located in the London Borough of Merton. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a pitched tiled roof that extends to the eaves. The church is designed in the Late Gothic style and consists of a five-bay nave with a wide aisle on the north side only, and it does not have a clerestory. The chancel is slightly lower than the nave.

The entrance is located in the northwest porch and features an ogee arch with a traceried gable. There is a two-light window in the aisle and buttresses between the bays. A tourelle and an ogeed bellcote are situated at the southeast of the nave. The east window is a five-light reticulated traceried design.

Inside, the church has a barrel roof supported by king posts, with a pointed chancel arch. A Perpendicular timber rood screen is present, along with an inlaid marble pulpit and font, an inlaid timber lectern, and an altar located in the north aisle that features gilding and figured reliefs, as well as a reredos. Additionally, there is a window by Morris & Co from 1926 on the south side.
