Description

Mitcham Station is a station office, likely originally a house, dating to around 1800. It is constructed of stock brick with a low-pitched slate roof extending to the eaves. The building has a symmetrical composition with three bays and a pediment above the entire facade, containing a segmental-headed window. A segmental-headed recessed carriage entrance is present. Most windows are square-headed sashes with glazing bars. The central window on the first floor has French casements and is accompanied by a cast iron balcony decorated with honeysuckle motifs. A console cornice runs along the top of the building. Chimneys are located to the left and right. It was reportedly built for the horse-drawn Surrey Iron Railway of 1803.
