Description

Tate Almshouses, built in 1829, were designed by J C Buckler. They are constructed of yellow brick with a slate roof and form three sides of a square. The building has a single storey and a total of ten windows and seven doors. The central and end sections feature gables. The doorways are topped with depressed pointed arches featuring gauged heads, and contain planked, studded doors. The windows are segmental headed, with three-light timber mullions and diamond arched glazing. A brick eaves cornice runs along the top. Tall, paired Tudor-style chimneys are topped with octagonal terracotta pots, contributing to the group value of the building.
