Description
Messrs Peerless Pumps is a building dating from around 1720, with a later wing and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of purple brick and features a hipped tiled roof, a large square central brick chimney, and deep eaves.
The main front faces the river and consists of three storeys with six bays, where the windows are arranged in pairs of three, suggesting it may have originally been designed as a pair of buildings. The roof has three parallel ridges and a short projection at the rear, likely intended for a staircase. A late 18th-century extension extends from this main structure. The windows have gauged flat brick arches set within flush moulded wood architraves, primarily featuring early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, although some later casements are present, and a few windows have been blocked. The bonds at the floor levels are visible. The openings in the extension have new brickwork and sashes with glazing bars. The ground floor of both the extension and the back of the house has been rendered with modern openings, and there are other modern extensions that are not of interest.
