Description

This is an early 18th-century house, altered in later centuries. It is constructed of brown brick with red brick dressings and has a red-tiled hipped roof that extends to the eaves. The building is three storeys high and originally three bays wide. A 19th-century extension has been added to the front, featuring a pilastered corner entrance and a plate glass window, although the original front wall has been retained. The windows are square-headed and sashed with glazing bars to the first floor; 20th-century windows are found on the second floor. The interior retains original panelling in all rooms except for the ground floor front rooms, as well as original fire surrounds and cornices. An original open-well staircase features turned and twisted balusters, with carved tread ends, although many of the balusters are missing above the first floor. The building represents a remarkably complete survival of its original form.
