Description

St Mary's Convent, formerly known as St Raphael's Convent, is an 18th-century building located at No 10 on The Butts in Brentford. The convent is constructed of brown brick and features two storeys with four double-hung sash windows set in reveals, topped with flat arches. The entrance is highlighted by a rusticated door surround that includes keystones, consoles, and a pediment, leading to a six-fielded panel door. The ground floor projects slightly and has a flat roof with a balustrade above. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate, featuring a modillion cornice and a parapet. The listed buildings in The Butts are recognized as a group due to their historical significance as a setting for the Middlesex elections in the 18th century.
