Description

Worton Hall is a mid-19th century building, originally film studios, now owned by the Coal Board since June 1969 and with significant internal alterations. The building is stuccoed. The west elevation features a main three-storey block with five windows, flat arches, and glazing bars. Iron window guards are present on two windows of the attic storey, below a parapet with recessed panels. The block is topped by a cornice which extends to two flanking one-storey wings, each with a blind storey and a label above. The main block's ground floor is rusticated, with eight flat arched windows set in arched recesses with keystones. A semi-circular porch with four reeded columns (two attached) leads to a five-panel door and an ornamental fanlight, approached by four steps. A similar, plain stuccoed east elevation contains five flat arched windows and a plain Doric porch. A left-hand section of the east elevation has been heavily altered and incorporates an ornamental iron verandah with a semi-circular lunette above.
