Description

The Church of St John, built between 1855 and 1856, was designed by John Deason for John Farnell, a brewer. It is part of a group that includes almshouses, a school, and a vicarage. The church is constructed from random rubble with ashlar dressings and features rusticated quoins. It has a square tower topped with crenellations. The windows are trefoil-headed, set within square architraves or pointed arches, and have drip moulds. The roof is made of slate. Inside, the church has stone arched arcades and a notable collection of stained glass windows.
