Description
The monument to William and Elizabeth Brookes is located in the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul. This monumental tombstone, designed as a gabled shrine, commemorates Mr. William Brookes, who died in 1869. It is signed by J. Forsyth and constructed from limestone and granite, featuring inset bosses of marble. The east end of the gable is topped with a Celtic cross, while the west end displays a tall crocketed finial above an arched inscription panel set between colonnettes. The inscription reads: "In memory of Mr William Brookes, formerly of Mark Lane, London, Born 30th November 1789; died 2nd November 1869. Also of Mrs Elizabeth L.A. Brookes. Buried at St Bride's Fleet Street, wife of the above. Born 6th March 1787; died 15th March 1852."
