Description

129 to 133 High Street is a group of buildings that likely originated as a range of timber-framed structures from the 17th century or earlier, with later facades added. Number 129 features an early 19th-century front that is three storeys high with two windows, constructed from yellow stock brick and topped with a stone-coped parapet. It has gauged flat brick arches over recessed sash windows that include glazing bars, and a modern shop front on the ground floor.

Numbers 130, 131, and the left bay of number 132 share a late 18th-century front that is also three storeys tall, with five windows made of pinkish brick and a stone-coped parapet. These buildings have high-pitched roofs that are partly slated and partly tiled, with gauged flat brick arches over later windows, which include a mix of sash, casement, and pivoted styles. The ground floor has modern shop fronts.

The two right bays of number 132, along with number 133, feature a two-storey 18th-century front made of pinkish brick, with red brick gauged window arches and a diagonal brick cornice. The old tiled roof is hipped on the left, with a higher roof ridge visible. The later recessed sash windows are complemented by modern shop fronts on the ground floor. There is a central carriageway leading to Johnson's yard.

Numbers 126 to 136, along with number 126A, form a cohesive group.
