Description
The Crown and Sceptre Public House is a 17th century or earlier timber-framed building located on the north-east side of High Street at No 136. It features a long back range that runs at right angles to the main structure. The building is two stories high and has a two-window early 20th century front. The first floor is roughcast with mock timbering, while the ground floor is constructed of brick. The roof is tiled and has two modern gables. On the first floor, there are small-paned casements, and on the ground floor, there are two canted bays with large, decorative stained glass windows. The right return of the building shows some visible timber framing, although much of it is concealed beneath brick or roughcast. Nos 126 to 136, along with No 126A, form a group.
