Description

The Old Cottage is a late medieval hall house of Wealden type, located on High Road in Cowley Peachey. It has two storeys and three bays, with the central bay (the hall) floored and extended forward to create the appearance of a continuous jettied front. The timbers are exposed, with those on the front closely set and the rest featuring open square framing. The infill is partly plaster and partly brick. The cottage has a very high pitched roof, which is now half-hipped and constructed with crown posts. The roof is covered with old tiles, along with some 19th-century slate diapering. There is an off-centre chimney, and much of the timber and original fireplace is visible inside.
