Description
Sections of boundary wall, railings, gates, and gate piers to the former Gidea Hall are located on Heath Drive in Gidea Park. These surviving sections of walling were once part of the grounds of Gidea Hall, which was demolished in 1929. There is a dated stone inscribed "WC AXII 1750" on the garden side. The section to the south on Heath Drive has one pair of square gate piers and a taller pier to the south. The walls are made of red brick and feature stone entablature caps on the piers, along with coping on the wall that sweeps up to the south. There are short sections of iron railings with a gate, featuring spiked uprights arranged with a modulating top. After a short break, the brick wall continues to the north with a longer section that includes flat buttresses and cement coping. There is a garden entrance with an iron gate under a segmental brick arch in the middle, as well as a second gated entrance to the north. A large square pier with a stone entablature is located at the corner where the wall returns away from the street. The brick wall continues to the south-west at an increased height, with one interruption at Mead Close.
