Description
No. 6 West Grove is an early 19th century house of four storeys and a sunk basement, originally with five windows. The exterior is constructed of multicoloured stock brick with a parapet designed to hide the roofline. The windows have gauged flat brick arches and recessed sash windows with glazing bars, although some of the glazing bars have been replaced. Two windows, the second from the left on the first and third floors, were blocked at some point. A set of four steps, featuring a curved, wrought iron handrail, leads to a four-panel door. The door is set within a deep, panelled reveal and is framed by a doorcase consisting of flat pilasters and curved brackets supporting a cornice hood with modillions and dentils. Inside, there is an imported early 18th century staircase characterised by alternating wide and narrow spiral turned balusters. The original staircase, dating from around 1800, is also present. No. 6 forms a group with Nos. 2, 7 and 8 West Grove.
