Description

The Hyde Vale Fountain and cattle trough are a drinking fountain and cattle trough located in Hyde Vale. The cattle trough is dated 1877. The drinking fountain is approximately 9 feet high and constructed of stone, with a square plan, hipped roof, and a squat octagonal shaft topped by a cast iron bracket. The fountain was restored in 2021, and an original street light was reintroduced to the bracket. It features four semi-circular stone bowls with cambered arches above, and sits on two square stone steps. A rectangular granite cattle trough abuts the fountain; it has two curbing stones facing south and a dog trough beneath. The trough was erected by the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association, and bears an inscription on the west end reading β€œIN MEMORIAM ROBERT TROTTER ESQ 1877.”
