Description

The Royal Dockyard Police building, located on the east side of the entrance gateway, is a mid-18th century house. It features two storeys, an attic, and a sunk basement, with three windows on the main facade and an early 19th-century one-window extension set back to the right. The building has a high-pitched roof, currently felted, with three square dormers, while the right extension has a slated roof with one dormer. The exterior is constructed of multicoloured stock brick, adorned with a cornice band and a stone-coped parapet, along with a first-floor band and plinth. The right extension lacks these bands. The recessed sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged brick arches in stucco-lined reveals. The ground floor features round-arched windows with small sidelights, creating the appearance of wide Venetian windows. The central entrance has a six-panel door, with the upper four panels glazed, topped with a cornice head and a radial fanlight, all within a small, modern half-glazed wood porch. The right extension includes a plain door with a radial fanlight. There is a one-storey, six-bay link to the entrance gate that features an open Doric loggia, with doors alternating with recessed sash windows that also have glazing bars. The painted brick wall above the colonnade has a rendered parapet.
