Description

Fox Hill Junior School was built in 1881 and is a single-storey building with an attic and basement, featuring three windows. It has a high-pitched, hipped tiled roof topped with a bell cote that has a lead ogee cupola. A later dormer has been added to the left side of the roof. The walls are made of red brick, and the central section slightly projects under a high Dutch gable. This section includes a round-headed window on the half landing above the main floor, with a door beneath it on the half landing below.

The building features pilasters with terra-cotta leaf decoration, which are paired at the ends and single on either side of the central section, supporting a moulded and dentilled cornice. These pilasters rest on a cornice of the basement floor, which is slightly lower on the left to accommodate the slope of the hill, and they have small brick aprons below. The side windows have gauged, flat brick arches, with their keystones supporting a moulded cornice and a pediment adorned with egg and dart moulding. Above the left window, there is an oval terra cotta medallion.

The central window and door are set in a round arched recess, with a small pilaster on the keystone that supports the cornice of the Dutch gable, which has a round head above it. The gable is decorated with three ball finials. Steps lead up to the door, which features a stone architrave, alternating block jambs, a frieze, cornice, and pediment, all with egg and dart moulding. The tympanum above the door has the inscription "AD 1881" along with a swag. High basement windows are arranged with three grouped casements on each side. There is a shallow flight of steps to the left that leads up to the playground level.
