Description

This is an early 18th-century terrace of eleven houses, numbered 1 to 11, located on South Street in Greenwich. Each house is three storeys high with an attic, and features three windows. The roofs are mansard style, though the materials vary from house to house: slate and new handmade tiles at number 1; old pantiles and handmade tiles at number 3; new pantiles and old handmade tiles at number 5; machine tiles and old handmade tiles at number 7; old pantiles and galvanised asbestos at number 9; and entirely galvanised asbestos at number 11. Each house has two flat roof dormers, with the right dormer at number 7 being larger than the other.

The facades are brick, with a decorative cornice band and a stone-coped parapet. The second floors of houses 1 and 3 were rebuilt following war damage. Stucco bands define the second floor. The sash windows are set within flush moulded frames and have gauged, slightly cambered brick arches above them; some windows feature glazing bars, although house 3 has later recessed sash windows. Modernised shops occupy the forecourts.

The rear elevations were altered in the early 19th century, adding ground and first-floor canted bays. A modern rear extension has been added to house 7. Houses 1 to 15a (odd) form a group of listed buildings.
