Description
This is a terrace of 1840 houses located on Hyde Vale. Numbers 4 to 26 (even) form a unified composition that rises up a hill and curves gently, with three distinct sections of four houses each. Each house is three stories high with a basement, and has two windows. The houses are built of multicoloured stock brick with a stucco cornice and blocking course that conceals the roof. An inscription in the blocking course of the central two houses, numbers 14 and 16, reads “18 HAMILTON TERRACE 40”. A stucco band runs along the first-floor cill, with recessed areas above the party walls. The basement is also stuccoed. The sash windows have gauged, flat brick arches with glazing bars; the ground-floor windows are wider. Some of the sashes have been replaced. There are three steps with wrought iron handrails leading to the doors, which are made of four or six panels and have cornice heads. Above each door is a semicircular fanlight, some of which are patterned, set within a round arched recess. Numbers 4 to 36 (even) combine to form a group.
