Description

This is an early 18th-century pair of buildings on Maze Hill. They are three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and have six windows in total. The roof has a high pitch and is tiled, with end chimneys. There are two dormers with segmental arches, featuring early 19th-century sash windows with delicate bars. The walls are of brown brick, with red brick dressings. A slightly projecting central section, with four windows, has red brick quoins, as do brick angle pilasters. These pilasters support a cornice band and a parapet articulated by five smaller red brick pilasters. A moulded string runs along the second floor, and a flat band is at the first floor level. The sash windows have gauged segmental brick arches with white keystones and are set in near-flush box frames with glazing bars. In the centre, two adjoining Doric prostyle porches, with fluted columns and corresponding back pilasters, share an entablature featuring a triglyph frieze and mutule cornice. Five steps lead up to the doors, which have six fielded panels in the upper portion and four diagonally divided triangular fielded panels below. The wrought iron handrails have been replaced.
