Description
Ye Old Cherry Tree Inn is a building made up of five distinct sections, located on The Green in Southgate. The northernmost section is an early 19th-century roughcast structure with two windows in the upper room, situated above a brick-built carriageway. Next is a two-storey yellow brick house from the early 18th century, featuring three windows, an eaves cornice concealed by a wooden frieze with Gothick arcading, and a red tile roof with dormers. The third section, also from the early 18th century, has a yellow brick facade, a red tile roof, and two ground floor bay windows from the early 19th century. It includes a Tudor porch and gable, with modern flat tiles added that hide a fine 18th-century wooden doorcase with a carved, pulvinated frieze. To the side, the 18th-century facade connects to late 17th or early 18th-century weatherboarding with a brick base. Ye Old Cherry Tree Inn and the adjacent properties numbered 23 to 31 form a cohesive group.
