Description
Essex House and Arnoside House are an early 18th-century pair of buildings, each standing three storeys high with a basement and featuring three windows. They are constructed of light red brick and have a modillioned cornice made of bright red brick, topped with a parapet. The buildings have rusticated brick quoins and gauged segmental brick arches above the sash windows, which include glazing bars. Access is provided by four stone steps with wrought iron handrails leading to paired doors that have eight panels (now top glazed) framed by moulded architraves. Carved consoles support cornice hoods that are broken back in the centre. Essex House and Arnoside House form a group with the nearby Essex Coach House, Arnoside Cottage, and the forecourt railings and gates.
