Description

This is an early 18th-century, seven-window, three-storey house of brown brick with red brick dressings, constructed in 1722. It forms the central section of a larger complex of 20th-century offices built of red brick with stone dressings. A modern tetrastyle portico has been added to the central entrance. The original section has a green slate roof. The interior includes a very fine painted staircase, attributed to Landscroon, which depicts the Triumph of Julius Caesar. There is also a handsome back room completely decorated in the Adam style, along with a smaller, similar room. Much of the original woodwork remains, and the plaster decorations are attributed to Sir Robert Taylor.
