Description

The London Buddhist Vihara, originally the C A V Social Club, is a building dating to circa 1877, designed by R N Shaw and later altered. Constructed of red brick with tiled roofs, the main block comprises two storeys plus an additional storey beneath a pyramidal roof with a coved eaves-cornice. It features two windows on the ground floor and four above, along with a prominent porch and two gabled dormers. A tall brick stack is also present. A pedimented wing to the left exhibits ornamental brickwork, while a low addition extends to the right, and further additions are located at the rear. The interior has undergone significant alterations. The building was originally designed by E J May and served as a club for Bedford Park residents until 1939.
