Description
The Woodcote War Memorial consists of two granite blocks, with the upper block being slightly trapezoidal, resting on a granite base. The north face has a recess that once held a drinking fountain, which has now been removed. The south face displays an inscription in black lettering that reads: "THIS / VILLAGE GREEN / IS DEDICATED TO THE USE / OF THE PUBLIC / IN MEMORY OF THE MEN / AND WOMEN OF THE / URBAN DISTRICT OF / COULSDON & PURLEY, / WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES / IN DEFENCE / OF THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE / WORLD WARS / 1914 - 1918 / 1939 - 1945." The names of the Fallen are also inscribed below this text and on the east and west sides of the memorial.
