Description
The ice house in the grounds of Geoffrey Harris House dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring Flemish bond on the passage gable and English bond on the passage side walls, and is mostly covered with earth. The structure has a domed, circular storage chamber with a horse-shoe cross-section, more than half of which is sunk into the ground.
The entrance passage is located on the east side and has a round-arched entrance with a late 20th-century plank door beneath a gable. Inside, the passage has a stone floor and a brick vault, leading to the entrance of the chamber. At the end of the passage, on the north side, there is a flight of brick stairs that curve around the side of the chamber and lead down to a second door on the north side. Inside the chamber, there are four perforated clay-tile drains.
